Whether you are heading to a second home to escape the summer heat or are looking to spruce up your home furnishings for a home sale, finding furniture for a decent price can be difficult. In order to reserve your cash for more important things, I have put together a few resources that might be helpful as you embark on a bit of redecorating.
- Copy Cat Chic. Copy Cat Chic is a blog written and managed by Reichel Broussard. She combined her career in design and internet marketing with her passion for home décor to create this site which offers low-cost versions of more expensive home goods. She writes on her site that “I scoured the internet for sales, closeouts and bargains in order to make our house into a home…on the cheap. I started finding so many deals that I couldn’t help but share them with everyone else. And that’s how Copy Cat Chic was born!” And you’ll be glad it was.
- Yard Sale Mapper. If you have an iPhone, you will start loving it even more once you download the Yard Sale Mapper application. We all know that yard and estate sales can be hit or miss. But with this free application, finding a garage sale near you just got a whole lot easier. It searches Craigslist for listings and uses the iPhone’s GPS function to display a map showing all the sales in your vicinity. Happy treasure hunting!
- Ivillage.com. Ivillage has a number of resources within their site with excellent experts sharing their knowledge. They have an entire segment of their site dedicated to budget decorating. You may have to dig through their articles for what you’re looking for but it’s worth the read, especially when you’re just getting started and looking for ideas.
- WiseBread. Wise Bread is a community of bloggers who share their various areas of expertise to “help you live large on a small budget.” The site’s frugal living and personal finance areas are particularly good resources.
- Furniture Affair. If you live in Arizona, Furniture Affair is a great find. All of their furniture comes directly from model homes. They not only constantly have new merchandise, but their customer service is so superb that if you are looking for something in particular (such as an office desk), they will call you when such an item comes in. You just can’t beat that service or the prices.
Know that if you are looking to spruce up your home before putting it on the market, contact a real estate agent first. They will be able to advise you on what pieces of furniture will help your home show the best. But if you’re looking to furnish that second home or redecorate your current one, some of these resources above are sure to offer you at least a few great deals and a bunch of inspiration.
Happy shopping!
